The Non-Binding Resolution or How to Not Actually Govern While Looking Like You're Really Trying.
Dateline Feb 14 F.U.N. Corp News - I have today after 5 days of debate passed a Non-Binding Resolution that I am insanely attractive, suave, sophisticated, intelligent and oh yeah... you all want me.
OK folks. Let's have a look-see at what our esteemed House of Representatives is doing today. They are about to waste another day of debate on their oh so courageous Non-Binding resolution that the War in Iraq sucks. I confess ladies and gentlemen that this strikes me as the worst sort of political posturing for the media age. Our new Democratic majority who ran on the dire need to get our soldiers out of Iraq have had the courage to invest none of their political capital to send the President what amounts to a greeting card. This maneuver is designed so that in 08 they can say "see look we opposed this disastrous war" without actually doing anything about it.
Now I've taken my fair share of social studies so I understand that the congress was not established to set policy, that's the executive's job, but this does not change the fact that their duly appointed roles of oversight and budget control would provide a platform for them to truly oppose the war in Iraq. How to do that? Great question. To cut budget for the war puts soldiers in greater peril. They're just doing their job so that's a crappy idea. They have some room to maneuver in oversight but have so far shown reluctance to look like the accountability mongers that all things being equal they should.
But that's the good news about blogging. I don't have to have the answers, it's perfectly OK to just nitpick.
And Remember I'm hot! Says so in the resolution.
