Chicks Rule!

My girls the Dixie Chicks have proved once again that you can stand up for your First Amendment Rights, tell the establishment to piss off and still succeed. Smiling through 5 count’em 5 Grammys for their “Screw you country music we’ll do something else” album, Natalie, Emily and Martie and the Grammy voters sent a hearty Fuck You! to the conservative corporate country Music establishment. The furor set off by Natalie’s comments was predictable from the right wing bloviators. The duck and cover from the Nashville establishment, country music redneck idiots like Toby Kieth, and country radio stations was unconscionable. It would be nice if other media outlets might learn the lesson here. You can stand up for what’s right and still make a profit. (Are you listening ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN etc.?)

I always have been a Chicks lover so my appreciation of the band is not wholly objective, but they are extraordinarily talented musicians. Don’t believe me, listen carefully to the string work on the live cut of oh say “White Trash Wedding” and you will here bluegrass pickin’ and fiddlin’ as good as any out there. The fact that they stood up for their rights and spit in the eye of an establishment that had made them all gazillionaires just makes me that much prouder to say I knew them when.
